I often say to people in Circles or in private sessions to follow their heart or to listen to their gut. For me personally, they are two different things, even though the message will probably be the same.
Follow my heart is paying attention to the physical sensations in my chest - in the area where my heart is supposed to be. Since I've started to work with constellations, I learned to distinguish between true and false by a light expansion or contraction in my heart centre. What opens my heart? What is true to me? Yes or No? Usually it needs to be a direct question or statement said out loud. And then watch your reaction and follow through. Listening to my gut is usually an immediate knowing, an intuition, an image of the next step, of what is right. For me it doesn't have a physical sensation but a confidence that even if i don't know why it needs to be like that, it just does. In family constellations we usually choose and place representatives based on the gut feeling. The key here is to trust yourself. I also had to learn to trust my body when working with constellations. Every time I 'got it right',i.e. my representation was accurate to the issue-holder, I was encouraged to be more attentive to my body. Body knowing is another way to be guided. Sometimes it seems as if my body knows where to go and I end up exactly where I needed to be. Heart, gut, body - all good alternatives to head. But don't leave your head behind, include it into this journey, for the wholeness of YOU. -A.S.

AuthorI am fascinated by the Systemic Family Constellations work and everything shamanic. I study it, practice it, research it. Here, I am sharing what I learn and hope it can be of use to somebody interested in healing their families, communities and lives. In 2019 I published some of my poetry inspired by systemic work in this journal. It is available as PDF, Kindle or printed at the link above.
